On 24 September 1991, Nirvana released Nevermind, an album that would become one of the defining records of the 1990s. The official Nirvana timeline marks 24 September as its release date, and the album would soon turn songs such as “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “Come As You Are” and “Lithium” into generational anthems.
What made Nevermind so powerful was not simply its sound. The album brought the raw energy of alternative rock to a huge international audience without losing the tension, imperfections and emotional directness that made the music feel personal.
More than three decades later, its influence can still be heard in rock music. And its songs remain a reminder that powerful concert music does not have to be polished or predictable. Sometimes its strength comes from the opposite.
