On 11 July, we presented The Music of the Lord of the Rings by Candlelight by Mystery Ensemble at the National Library of Georgia for the first time.
Surrounded by flickering candles, Howard Shore’s music transformed the library into a meeting place between cinema and literature. Familiar themes carried the audience from the peaceful landscapes of the Shire to the darker roads of Tolkien’s universe, filling the hall with mystery, courage and the feeling of a journey just beginning.
The setting added another layer to the evening. Alongside the concert, guests could pick up Tolkien’s books from the library shelves and return to the original stories behind the films. Music opened the door to Middle-earth, while the books offered a way to continue travelling through it after the final note.
This first Lord of the Rings concert at the National Library of Georgia brought together live performance, candlelight and the written worlds that inspired generations — allowing Tolkien’s universe to be heard, seen and read in one place.
